Lemon Cayenne Pepper Diet & Lemonade Cleansing Diet

MILWAUKEE – As the new Duchess of Cambridge walked down the aisle a couple weeks ago, it was hard not to notice her slender, willowy figure. Froedtert Registered Dietitian Dena McDowell noticed it as well.

“I think she’s always been thin and healthy, and I think right now she looked beautiful, but I don’t think she needs to lose anymore weight at all,” McDowell says.

According to reports, Kate Middleton and some of her friends did the ‘Dukan Diet” to prepare for the royal wedding. French doctor Pierre Dukan created the diet–which is all the rage in Europe, and is making its way to the states. McDowell can see the benefits.

“If somebody’s looking to jump start their diet, and they’re looking for a quick weight loss, you can definitely see that with following a high protein diet such as the Dukan Diet,” McDowell suggests.

Phase 1 is all protein–for 10 days! McDowell explains, “Your body is using your protein and your fat to burn calories, not relying on carbohydrates.”

Phases 2 and 3–start adding in some non-starchy veggies and a few grains.

“So that’s the difference between Atkins type high protein diet that used to be popular,” McDowell says.

And finally Phase 4–Maintenance for life!

“You get to eat pretty much your regular diet, still focusing on the protein and once a week, you do an all-protein day,” McDowell explains.

It worked for Kate, and it could work for you, but McDowell does have some concerns. She warns, “Over time I think you could see some vitamin and mineral deficiencies in this diet.”

She adds, “I would be concerned if you are someone prone to fatigue, this diet would probably increase your fatigue.”

So–is it fit for a princess or just another fad? Only time will tell.
